Moreover, all the forms belonging to the scenes you see in the world you dwell in are forms of darkness. In order to destroy these dark forms, you must exist in the form of the grace of your radiant wisdom. Be convinced of this. Your eyes and your deceiving mind will try at every moment, without exception, to make your wisdom waver. You should be vigilant and burn up that restless, agitating mind and reduce it to ashes. Only then will you have burnt up the mind’s world of deceptive darkness. Warn your wisdom to be on guard and keep this mind under control. Then continue your search for the resplendent treasure of grace belonging to the immaculate soul, which is the real food for the resplendent wisdom of the light of truth. That treasure cannot be found in the marketplace we mentioned; you have to undergo great difficulties to obtain it. There are twelve shops in that market and twelve stations where people who are coming and going can get off or on. There are also twelve courts of justice and twelve planets there. Powerful people belonging to all twelve planets can also be found inside that marketplace. Further, in each community within the marketplace are five people who get together to inquire into and settle disputes, and six others who are judges for whatever matters do not come under the jurisdiction of the five. Of those six, five reflect upon things, discuss them, and then convey their decision to the sixth, the Nûr, the resplendence of wisdom, who is the ruler of wisdom. The Nûr analyzes deeper, extracts the truth, explains it to the five levels of wisdom functioning under him, points out to them, “What you did was wrong. It was incorrect,” and thus delivers a verdict on the truth, the good, and the evil of it, without wavering by even an atom from the dictates of the conscience. This is God’s judgment within you. This is your divine analytic wisdom, or pahuth arivu. It is to know the truth of this judgment and to act accordingly that you came to this marketplace. Know this with certitude. Millions upon millions of people are assembled here, and all their actions, qualities, and behaviors must inevitably come to this place. The judgment you make, once you have attained the station of divine analytic wisdom, will be your final chance to judge yourself. Realizing this, you must know yourself and live without deviating by even an atom from that wisdom. Further, you must search throughout all twelve shops, one by one, for this thing you came to buy. If you do not find it in the first one, you need to move on and continue to search diligently. Seven of those shops will be selling mostly objects entrancing to the eyes and the mind. You should observe these, but, realizing who you are, avoid them and move on. Above these seven shops is a great city (the eight shop). In this great city is a vast mansion where a king lives with his ministers and all his captains and generals. In this city with the mansion, you will find all the merchandise and wares of all the lands mentioned earlier and the treasures of the eighteen thousand universes. You will also find those who bring their wares to this royal city to sell them, those who come to buy all kinds of things (from small trinkets to the nine kinds of gems), those who have come to look at things, and those who have come to look at the crowds gathered here. Thus there may be many millions of wares, and millions upon millions of people crowding the market of this city. Twelve gates open into this market. If you wish to enter, you should go by way of the eastern gate, then proceed directly westward without looking this way or that. As you advance in that direction, you will observe the royal city, the market, and the places where all the wares are being sold. Near the center will be a small mansion, so exquisite and wonderful that no one could duplicate it. That is where the king resides. It is rare for any of the crowds to want to go to that palace. No one goes there. They would rather run here and there trying to buy things from the market than think of going to that palace to find out what it contains. Instead of joining the crowds, you should, in a subtle way, look for that palace. You will observe that it is located in the center and has four entrances. There are four different types of wonders, one in front of each entrance. At one entrance the wind blows furiously. At another a raging fire is burning, spreading toward you. At the third, water is rushing toward you. And at the last, the fourth element, earth, resplends in the form of the nine kinds of gems, glittering with dazzling power. As soon as the other three elements see these glitters, the wind joins the water, the fire joins the wind, and all three attack the glitters of the earth, scattering earth all over as dust. This earth-duct goes flying in all directions and falls as glittering particles onto the marketplace. Upon seeing this, all the people standing there shout, “Oh, gems! Ah, rubies!” mistaking those glitters for precious stones. They jostle and push, running and falling over each other, trying to grab as many as they can, and either stuff them into their pockets or wear them as necklaces, hidden away from sight. My son! Do you know the meaning of this? These are the groups of people who have come to this marketplace of dark hypnotic illusion to buy alluring things that fascinate the eyes. This craving goes with their state of infatuation. They take birth using the same four things they have been gathering, namely, earth, fire, water and air. The nine precious gems (which manifested through the desire of their infatuation), the nine openings, and the nine planets circle around them and are closely associated with them at all times. Having obtained, through their desire, all they were seeking, these people decorate their bodies with these things. But ultimately these stolen properties must be returned to the very place from which they were stolen. My son! Do not buy this borrowed property! Don’t even look at it! At each of the four gates, guarding each of these four wonders, is a five-faced monkey. So, together these four monkeys display twenty faces. My son! Do you know the meaning of this? Each monkey of your mind has five faces. You should be aware of this. The monkey of the mind, which stole that property, will prevent you from trying to return it to the place it belongs. Using its five faces, that monkey-thief will keep you constantly occupied, by making you imitate what you see. It will assume many millions of forms and will prompt you to do whatever your desire tells you to. It is capable of many more pranks of this nature. It is wicked, very wicked. Do not even turn to look its way. Escape from it and proceed directly toward the palace, my son! “M.R.
