A couple related the problems they were facing and asked why God let these things happen. God has said that the direction of one's life is determined by his thoughts and his desires. His life will unfold to fulfill whatever his mind wants. So, what has happened to you is not God's fault. It's not the fault of the Creator. Your life is a reflection of whatever you think about. Sorrow or happiness, heaven or hell, wealth or poverty—these you see as difficulties in life because that's the way your mind thinks. If you have perfect purity within your mind, you will perceive purity outside. If imperfections exist within your mind, you will perceive imperfections outside. If the mind has plenitude inside, it will perceive plenitude outside. If you have defects in the mind, you will perceive defects outside. That's how you will see if. If the mind perceives grace, you will see grace outside. If the mind perceives wealth, then you will see wealth. Whatever is in your thoughts is what you will perceive in your life. God has said this to His children. You asked, "Whose fault is this?" It's your thoughts that block the path, and it's your thoughts that open the path. It's your thoughts that bring your wealth, and it's your thoughts that bring you poverty. None of these things are the fault of the Creator. Without knowing this, many of you have come to believe that things happen because it was a lucky or unlucky time, or even because of your horoscope. You put the blame on such things for whatever happens to you. But the things that happen in your life are simply a result of the way your mind thinks. The mind is really the story of your life. Therefore, open the book of your history. Open it and study it, and you will see the story of your past and your present. And if you carefully analyze this life history—all its profits and losses—you yourself will understand where the fault lies. I can't tell you that. It's your mind that formed your blood ties, and it's your mind that brought forth children out of those blood ties. It's your mind that became attached to the things you have, and it's your mind that caused the selfishness that led you into selfish actions. Your present difficulties resulted from those actions. You need to think about this a little. The root cause of all your problems is the mind. March 24, 1977
