  • A Good Habit
There's a mechanism in the body that tells you when you're hungry. It's not an alarm clock. It's more like a habit. You just know it. There's an instrument within you that knows what time you're accustomed to eating and makes you aware of it, because you've formed a habit.
  • A Hadith: Qutb Muhaiyaddeen and The Catching Chain
Qutb Muhaiyaddeen, in the ripeness of age, came and sat in the mosque of shari’at in time for the early morning prayer, fajr. The one who functioned as imam for that mosque in those times came to the mosque and led the people in prayer. Although the Qutb was in the mosque, he did not join in the prayer during that waqt. The imam noted this and went away. At the midday prayer, zuhr, the imam came again to the mosque and led the prayer, but the Qutb did not pray then either.
  • A World of Examples
God says, "The many different things I created in the world are shown to you as examples. Use your wisdom to learn from them, and climb up. Look at this lotus I created. It grows up from the mud and lives in the water, but it doesn't keep any of the dirt or water on its petals.
  • Acquiring the Qualities of God
How can we adapt and be flexible in the world? Sometimes my mind sets up certain rules of conduct, but the situation and wisdom seem to indicate that some other conduct would be more appropriate.

  • Alone, Hungry, and Awake
It's easy to pass yourself off as a swami, but it's difficult to become a true human being. None of the acts you put on will make you a true human being. No advertising agent can negotiate that position for you, and you can't win it in an election.
  • Assess Themselves
“People tend to assess each other according to their own thoughts, suspicions, and doubts.

  • Building Plan
You build a house and prepare to live in it, but it is a house bound by an agreement as to its life-span no matter how well you plan. Is this not so?

Therefore, since the soul will live eternally, you must strive to build a beautiful house for it, a house which is not subject to time or to external conditions.

  • Compassion for Mental Patients
QUESTION: I also work in a mental institution, and I am having a problem with the doctor who runs the unit. She finds it hard to get along with me, because although I am the head nurse, I am not the bossy type, the kind that gives a lot of orders without understanding what is going on. So she gets very angry. I don't return the anger, I just walk off, because I know eventually she is going to shout and scream.
  • Correct The Fault
“First of all, you should think, ‘My God, You created me, and You are protecting me every second of my life. You gave me food. You gave me this body, You gave me speech. You gave me eyes to see, a nose to smell fragrances, and a tongue to know tastes.

  • destruction - "How to Escape the Destruction Part 1 of 3"
In the name of Allah the Most Merciful, Most Compassionate. (Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.) The 124,000 prophets came to this world and brought the explanations that were given to them by God, the Lord Almighty’s (Allahu ta ‘ala Nayan) divine words of grace. They taught about the creation, this world, and the hereafter (awwal, dunya, and akhirah). Some people accepted these teaching and some did not. Many opposed them and many more just did not want them.

  • destruction - "How to Escape the Destruction Part 2 of 3"
Therefore, precious jeweled lights of my eyes, Allah alone has laid the most exalted of all paths before us. His quality is the one path. His actions, conduct, and good behavior are the one path. His trust, His justice, His three thousand benevolences with which He shows compassion, and His attributes that make each heart become aware—these are the one path.

    By: M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
  • destruction - "How to Escape the Destruction Part 3 of 3"
Precious jeweled lights of my eyes, you must realize the past, the present, and the future that is coming. If you realize this and conduct yourselves properly, you will escape. Destruction will be caused by atoms, fires, water, storms, gales, illusion, arrogance, caste, religion, and dogmas. Wars will increase; we will have to face different forms of attacks. These conditions are slowly spreading.

    By: M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
  • destruction - "Introduction to the Signs of Destruction"
As far as I know, God has spoken of forty-one signs that signify the destruction of the world. (9/25/79) These were revealed about one thousand years ago. (1/8/74) So far I have seen the secrets for thirty-seven of these signs, and they have all occurred in the way that was foretold.

    By: M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen

    By: M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
  • destruction - "The 36th Sign of Destruction"
The thirty-sixth sign is also already taking place. People are turning from their race, religion, philosophy, and scriptures. Kings are being destroyed. The barber is becoming a king and the king is becoming a barber.

    By: M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
  • destruction - "The 37th Sign of Destruction"
In the thirty-seventh sign, there will be mass destruction through earthquakes, storms, volcanoes, and tidal waves. Harvests and crops will be destroyed; famine and disease will be rampant. Population will increase, and rain will decrease.

  • Duty
The Sheikh said to his disciples: Children who perform duties and service to God, no matter where they may be—whether in a jungle, in a house, under a tree, or at the foot of a mountain—must carry out the duties which are His qualities, His actions, and His conduct.

  • duty - "A Sufi Perspective on Business"
Some people’s minds go around and around on a single thought, “Business hurts people. It takes their money and exploits them. I don’t want to be like that, so how can I become a businessperson?” What they have failed to consider is that everything in the world is a business by its very nature. Farmers conduct a business; priests, ministers, and other religious leaders conduct businesses. Doctors charge patients, do they not?

My son, the human race is composed of millions upon millions of lives, each having its own subtle grade of wisdom. Each of us is bringing up a baby inside called mind and desire, which cries for everything it sees in the world. Not only does it cry, but just as the ocean waves come rolling in, this baby brings waves of thoughts which roll over us incessantly; as each wave passes, the next one and the next one break.

“The qualities, actions, and conduct of a true Sheikh will be that of God. He will not do his work for money, hunger, house or wealth. • Free Yourself of Fear
Fear is a thief who is forever afraid of being caught, afraid of facing the truth. That thief is hiding inside you, like the thief who hides when he sees a policeman. My children! We are mankind (insan), those who have been created as the most exalted beings by the compassion of Allah’s love.
